<p>Disclosed is a system and a method for tile-based compression. Image data, such as a frame, can be divided into tiles. The size of the tile can be adjusted based on the size of a line buffer. The tiles are individually compressed and decompressed. As a part of an image frame is updated, a corresponding updated tile can be compressed and stored. Similarly, as the tile is accessed, the tile can be decompressed in a requiring device and streamed. In some embodiments, a decoder, which is operable to decompress the tile, can be inserted between a memory device and the requiring device. Data, which encodes one or more compressed tiles, can be grouped so as to enable a decompression at a rate of 4 pixels per clock cycle. Disclosed is a method for compressing image data that includes both RGB and RGB elements.</p> |
