An image device comprises a semiconductor substrate that has a photosensitive element for responding to incident light to accumulate charges. The semiconductor substrate comprises a light-receiving surface disposed to receive image light. The image device further comprises a negative charge layer and a charge sinking layer. The negative charge layer is disposed adjacent to the light-receiving surface of the semiconductor substrate so as to induce holes along the light-receiving surface in an accumulation region of the semiconductor substrate. The charge sinking layer is disposed adjacent to the negative charge layer and is configured to retain or increase an amount of negative charges in the negative charge layer. The negative charge layer is disposed between the semiconductor substrate and the charge sinking layer.
