513,189. Drawing sheet glass. AMERICAN WINDOW GLASS CO. June 29, 1938, No. 19302. Convention date, May 19. [Class 56] Apparatus from drawing sheet glass comprises a drawing-pit 3, a debiteuse 4 from which the sheet S is drawn, a cooler 9 adjacent each face of the sheet, and a member 14 which extends between the debiteuse and the adjacent wall of the pit, on each side of the sheet, for retarding the cooling and equalizing the temperature of the molten glass and rendering the temperature gradient from the middle to the edges of the sheet substantially uniform. The members also equalize the temperature of at least a portion of the gases that strike the meniscus 10 of the sheet. Preferably, the members are made of refractory bricks and they rest partly on the surface of the molten glass. The central portion of the course of bricks may be left open, so that the members consist of two U-shaped sections adjacent each end of the pit. Specification 513,186 is referred to.
|
