A method for operating a washing machine is provided to sterilize biochemical pollutants such as bacteria, which remains on a tub and a drum, by irradiating ultraviolet to the tub and drum after finishing a final dehydration cycle. A method for operating a washing machine comprises the steps of cleansing a tub and a drum(S110), and irradiating ultraviolet to the tub and the drum while cleansing the tub and the drum to sterilize them by operating an ultraviolet generating unit(S115). The ultraviolet generating unit is operated before cleansing the tub and the drum. |
