The method involves evaluating rising time at a measured speed (Mes), and comparing the measured time with a theoretical time (The). A command is modified when the measured time is higher than the theoretical time. A function value of a parameter concerning instabilities is determined in an engine idle state and compared with an instability criterion. The command is modified to reduce the instabilities when the value is representative of instability of an engine speed. The command is kept or modified to guarantee stability of the engine speed when the value is not representative.
