A main-view stream, a sub-view stream, and management information are recorded on a recording medium. The management information includes the system rate of each stream. Each stream is divided into a plurality of data blocks and forms a plurality of extent blocks. In each extent block, main-view data blocks and a sub-view data blocks are arranged alternately in a continuous manner. The maximum value of the size of the main-view data block and sub-view data block forming a single pair is determined in accordance with the following conditions: (i) the system rate of the sub-view stream; (ii) whether or not the pair is the leading pair in an extent block; (iii) whether or not a long-jump region exists between two extent block recording regions read in succession.
