PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, by targeting a silicon nitride-based porous body using silicon nitride particles as a raw ingredient in a state where individual silicon nitride particles are joined via a glass, a silicon nitride-based porous body exhibiting excellent mechanical strengths and a high heat conductivity without adversely affecting the ease of production; a method for manufacturing the same; a honeycomb structure; and a honeycomb filter.SOLUTION: At a defatting step, the content of oxygen mixed within an ambient atmosphere is adjusted in such a way that 5-22 wt.% of silicon carbide particles will be generated as a result of the reaction, at a sintering step, of organic components included after defatting with silicon particles, whereas post-reaction sintering is performed at the sintering step.
