The present invention, which solves the abovementioned problem, is a lithium-ion secondary battery provided with a negative electrode in which carbon is the principal active material. The present invention is characterized by the provision of a negative-electrode active material and a coating material formed on the surface of said negative-electrode active material. The present invention is also characterized in that said coating material comprises a compound containing boron and an alkyl group and is adsorbed onto the surface of the negative-electrode active material. In particular, it is preferable that compound (1) is used as the coating material. (1) In compound (1), each X represents a hydrocarbon group; each Y represents hydrogen or a methyl group; part of each hydrocarbon group may be substituted with oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, or a halogen; X1, X2, X3, Y1, Y2, and Y3 may be different from each other; and each X preferably has a carbon number between 1 and 10, inclusive. |
