1. A method of identifying a subject afflicted with or at risk of developing an Systemic Lupus Erythematosus comprising:
(a) providing a nucleic acid-containing sample from said subject; (b) determining the presence or absence of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in Interferon regulatory factor 8 (IRF8); and (c) identifying said subject as afflicted or at risk of development of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus when the presence of a SNP in IRF8 is observed.
