PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device which is capable of detecting that an object is left in or taken from a detection area, without troublesome operation such as registration of background data.SOLUTION: An area sensor device 1 (monitoring device) detects objects within a detection area by a laser scanner 13 (optical sensor), calculates the movement speeds and movement directions of the objects on the basis of temporal changes in position information of the objects, determines objects meeting a prescribed movement condition as moving objects, and thereby detects the moving objects to detect entry of the moving objects into the detection area. The area sensor device 1 includes: a determination unit 10e (determination means) which determines whether an object is detected in a post-passage detection range set to include the vicinity of a position which a detected moving object has passed and, if an object is detected in the post-passage detection range, determines whether the object stays in the same position for a preliminarily determined period or longer or not; and an output unit 12 (output means) which outputs the determination result of the determination unit 10e. |
