PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide zinc oxide usable more favorably than zinc oxides of the prior art for applications as heat-radiating fillers, etc. and also usable for other applications.SOLUTION: The provided zinc oxide powder is a zinc oxide powder having a median diameter of 1-30 μm and a D90/D10 of 4 or less, namely having a particle diameter larger and a D90-to-D10 ratio lesser than their counterparts of zinc oxide powders of the prior art, namely including scarce crude particles having extremely large diameters. The zinc oxide powder is obtained by mixing 0.1-10 mass% of ammonium bromide with zinc source particles and then stationarily firing the resulting mixture at 600°C to 1200°C.
