515,595. Making cartons. BISHOP, E. L. June 17, 1938, No. 17998. [Class 18] A carton blank formed with end wall a' and tabs a<1>, a<2> passes, in its passage through a carton making machine, deflectors e which bend these walls and tabs upwards, the tabs subsequently falling back into an horizontal position due to their inherent resilience while the walls a' are kept upright by a support h, or two supports f, h. While in this condition the blank passes gumming rollers which apply adhesive to the tabs only. The leading face of support f, and the leading edge of support h are oblique so that the tabs are forced to the horizontal position and pass underneath them. In a modification, a bar which is adjustable in height connects the deflector e and support f and is employed where the length of the tabs is comparable with that of the wall, but the height is less. The blanks slide on rails b and are moved by projections c' on chains running in the rails, and they are pressed down by belts d. The deflector and the supports, the latter being adjustable, are duplicated on the opposite side of the machine. Specification 515,596 is referred to. |
