<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid degradation of display qualities in a liquid crystal display device having a plurality of openings in an electrode.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having a first electrode, a second substrate having a second electrode, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a pair of polarizing plates. The first electrode includes a plurality of first openings 21, while the second electrode includes a plurality of second openings 22; and these openings are arranged in such a manner that each first opening is located between adjoining two second openings in a plan view. Each of the first openings and the second openings has a length of 0.007 mm or more and 0.03 mm or less in a direction orthogonal to a first direction. When a voltage is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, no voltage is applied to the regions corresponding to the positions where the first openings and the second openings are present, and these regions are observed as dark regions when viewed from the outside of one of the pair of polarizing plates.</p> |
