METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING URINARY INCONTINENCE

A method for treating urinary incontinence includes making a vaginal incision in a patient, and positioning a tape under the urethra through the incision such that one portion of the tape extends from under the urethra and diverts away from the bladder and other vital organs. In one embodiment, once positioned within the patient, the tape adopts a V-shape and provides support for the urethra without altering the position of the urethra.

1. A method for treating urinary incontinence, the method comprising:
making a vaginal incision in a patient; inserting an implant into the patient through the vaginal incision, the implant comprising a central region, a first end region, and a second end region; positioning the central region of the implant under a urethra of the patient; and positioning the first end region and the second end region of the implant relative to the central region of the implant such that the first end region of the implant is diverted away from a first side of the patient in a first direction and the second end region of the implant is diverted away from a second, opposite side of the patient in a second direction.
