<p>[Problem] To prevent driver confusion associated with display mode changes in a device which displays within a vehicle a video of circumstances external to the vehicle and assists in driving. [Solution] Left and right rear regions (L1, R1) of a vehicle, and regions (L2, R2) of the vehicle which are lateral vis-à-vis the rear regions, are image captured with left and right cameras (12, 14) which are mounted upon the vehicle. The captured video is displayed changed in display mode on a display (18) which is positioned either in front of or obliquely in front of a driver's seat. In a first display mode, the video of the rear regions (L1, R1) and the lateral regions (L2, R2) are displayed with the same image quality. In a second display mode, display is carried out at the same display magnification and in the same display location as in the first display mode, with the video of the rear regions (L1, R1) being displayed with the same image quality as in the first display mode, while the video of the lateral regions (L2, R2) is masked, reduced in image quality, or otherwise processed to be less noticeable.</p> |
