PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate having a polarizer with improved durability under high temperature and high humidity conditions and improved transmittance as a single element, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate.SOLUTION: The polarizer comprises a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin, a dichroic dye, and a compound or the like expressed by general formula (1) below. The compound or the like expressed by general formula (1) is included by 0.01 to 30 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin. In general formula (1), Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom, a straight-chain alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl group having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, or an aromatic group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms; and Rrepresents a substituent. |
