PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain active carbon revealing a high capacitance in high yield without selectively producing micropores during activation. SOLUTION: A method of producing an active carbon for a capacitor comprises the steps of: heating and mixing a carbon black with a binder pitch having a softening point of 110°C at a weight ratio of 1:0.5; calcining the heated product in a nitrogen atmosphere at 750°C; and activating the calcined product for one hour in a steam atmosphere at 900°C in a batch type rotary kiln. An active carbon thus obtained has a mean particle diameter D50 of 10.3μm, Dtop of 54.6μm, a specific surface area by BET method of 435 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>g<SP POS="POST">-1</SP>, a specific surface area of a micropore of 329 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>g<SP POS="POST">-1</SP>, and a micropore volume of 0.132 cm<SP POS="POST">3</SP>g<SP POS="POST">-1</SP>. Consequently, active carbon for a capacitor having a high capacitance is obtained in high yield. COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
