PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat plate membrane element of a new structure which can highly strongly weld and retain the circumferential edge part of a filtering membrane sheet to a filter plate with sufficient ductile strength, without the necessity to make welding facilities oversized and increase a manufacturing cost significantly, and further, can display a filtration function intended for the purpose with excellent durability and stability, under a condition where negative pressure, positive pressure, fluid pressure, vibration, etc., are applied. SOLUTION: This flat plate-like membrane element is of the following construction: a plurality of welded protrusions which are positioned at the circumferential edge part of a region where the filtering membrane sheet 30 is superposed over the filter plate 20 on the surface 43 thereof and continuously extend linearly in the circumferential direction. At the same time, an angular part auxiliary protrusion is formed between the adjacent welded protrusions at each angular part of a planar polygonal filtering membrane sheet 30. Further, the area of the filtering membrane sheet 30 welded to the filter plate 20 at the circumferential edge of the filtering membrane sheet 30 is larger at the angular part than the side part of the sheet 30 by sealing the welded protrusion and the angular auxiliary protrusion through welding them to the filtering membrane sheet 30.
