518,601. Pneumatic tyres. JOHN BULL RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BURTON, H. H. Oct.'15,1938, No. 29888. [Class 144 (ii)] A tyre tread is formed with one or more circumferential rows of blocks or studs 1 adapted to be in full road contact under load, the spacing of the blocks being so close as to ensure contact and tilting of adjacent blocks, as indicated in Fig. 8, when the tyre is subjected to driving or braking stresses, and the lateral dges of the blocks being at right angles to the underlying tread portion. Fig. 1 shows a cycle tyre in which the tread consists wholly of a single row of blocks 1. Fig. 4 shows a modification comprising two rows of blocks arranged between sets of endless ribs 4, 5, 8. In all cases, the transverse deflection of the blocks is unrestricted by any'other part of the tread surface. Specifications 428,137, 468,162, and 474,588 are referred to.
