An anaerobic adhesive composition comprising: component (a) which comprises monomers and which is stored in reservoir (i); and component (b) which comprises a free radical generating compound and which is stored in oxygen-impermeable reservoir (ii), where under anaerobic conditions or in the presence of an activator, components (a) and (b) react to form an adhesive. Component (a) may comprise methacrylate monomers, preferably hydroxypropyl methacrylate, 4-t-butylcyclohexyl methacrylate, or 1,3-butyleneglycol dimethacrylate. Component (b) may comprise a hydroperoxide, preferably cumene hydroperoxide. The adhesive composition may comprise an activator, preferably comprising copper ions. The composition may comprise an indelible pigment, preferably copper phthalocyanine. Also claimed is a method of spoiling, staining, or degrading an object of value in the event of a breach of security comprising: providing the adhesive composition; mixing components (a) and (b) under anaerobic conditions or in the presence of an activator; and contacting the resultant adhesive with the object of value. The object of value is preferably a bank note. |
