The purpose of the present invention is to provide a composition for inhibiting generation of methane gas comprising a chelating agent as an active ingredient to provide a method for inhibiting generation of methane gas economically and effectively. More specifically, provided is a method for inhibiting generation of methane in soil including a step of spreading a composition for inhibiting generation of methane gas comprising a chelating agent. According to an embodiment, the present invention can implement a composition for inhibiting generation of methane which economically and effectively inhibits methane gas emitted from soil.
