<p>A clamp 1 for retaining an object 9, e.g. a valve head, in position comprises a support member 3, such as a crossbar bridging a recess in the ground. It further comprises a retaining member 19 which clamps the object 9 in position, with the retaining member being movably mounted on the support member 3 at a perpendicular angle. There is also a fixing arrangement 37, e.g. bolts, that fastening the support member 3 to a surface such as the ground. Lastly, there is a stop means 33 which locks the retaining member in a clamping position in which the retaining member prevents the object from moving. This arrangement allows work to be conducted on an underground pipeline, such as replacing the bolts of a valve head, without the pipeline needing to be bypassed or isolated.</p> |
