摘要 <p>In handover from an intermediate access node (relay node, RN) to a new access node, the relay node transmits a first handover request message which identifies a plurality of access nodes as candidates for the new access node. Upon receipt of the first handover request message, the donor eNB (DeNB) to which the RN is connected sends second handover request messages to a plurality of the candidates and upon receiving an indication that one access node has adequate resources available, sends handover cancellation messages to at least some of the remaining access nodes. The candidates are preferably identified in a field in the first handover request message, which may be of variable length or of a predetermined fixed length. The number of bits used to identify the candidate access nodes may be determined based on information collected about neighbours of the intermediate access node. Candidate access nodes can be divided into groups and the first handover request may identify a particular group whose composition is known to the receiver of the message. The arrangement means the backhaul link to the DeNB is used only once to indicate a plurality of candidate cells for handover.</p>
