An apparatus for aerating grassland comprising a frame 2 adapted to be attached to a vehicle, preferably via three point linkage, a plurality of vertically arranged cutting discs 6, 8, mounted on the frame for forming fissures in the ground, each cutting disc being mounted at a distal end of a respective cantilevered arms 10, 12, each respective cantilevered arm being pivotally mounted on the frame to permit independent vertical displacement of each disc, wherein each cantilevered arm is associated with a respective biasing means 18, which may comprise a double-acting hydraulic ram, acting against the respective arm to bias the respective disc mounted thereon in a downwards direction with respect to the frame.
