A radar system having side lobe blanking (SLS, sidelobe suppression, sidelobe cancellation) comprises a single channel antenna and receiver system which receives signals from the main lobe and also from a guard beam which is displaced positively and negatively from the main beam; these are multiplexed, with the guard beam signals received after the main beam. No dedicated guard channel data is required, and the collection period for the guard beam is such that the scan rate of the system is not degraded. The signals may be sum channel (sigma) signals, and the displacement may be +/- 10 degrees, or may be asymmetric or on just one side. Multiple bursts, each at a different PRF, may be used. |
