PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chiller capable of extending running for any length of time by avoiding the abnormal stop of a refrigerant circuit as far as possible. SOLUTION: A chiller 1 which has a refrigerant circuit 38 for circulating a refrigerant and a brine circuit 39 for circulating brine and performing heat exchange with the refrigerant circuit 38 via cooler 7, includes: a first high pressure adjusting means for gradually reducing, when the discharge side pressure of the compressor 2 of the refrigerant circuit 38 becomes high to approach a first predetermined high pressure value for abnormal stop, the discharge capacity of the compressor 2, and performing running; a discharge refrigerant temperature adjusting means for gradually reducing, when the discharge side temperature of the compressor 2 exceeds a predetermined discharge refrigerant temperature value, the discharge capacity of the compressor 2, and performing running; and a cooler exit side refrigerant temperature brine temperature adjusting means for gradually reducing, when the refrigerant temperature of the cooler 7 exit side of the refrigerant circuit 38 is lowered to approach a first predetermined refrigerant temperature value for abnormal stop, the discharge capacity of the compressor 2, and performing running.
