PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord for rubber article reinforcement and a pneumatic tire using the same that are compatible with the rubber permeability and the productivity, and can reduce the weight of the tire without diminishing the strength in the case of applying it for the tire. SOLUTION: The steel cord for rubber article reinforcement comprises a core in which two core filaments 1 are arranged in parallel without twisting these, and six sheath filaments 2 twisted around the core. A distance D between the average sheath filaments as indicated by the following formula (I) is 25 to 80μm: D=[L-6dsä1+(L/p)<SP POS="POST">2</SP>}<SP POS="POST">1/2</SP>]/6, where the diameter of the core filament 1 is dc (mm), the diameter of the sheath filament 2 is ds (mm), and the pitch for twisting the sheath filament 2 is p (mm), and where L=(π+2)dc+πds.
