A heat pipe cooling system adapted for use with a welding torch, wherein said torch includes a body and a nozzle, and produces a heated zone having a minimum operating temperature when operated within an ambient environment presenting an average temperature, said heat pipe cooling system comprising: a self-contained heat pipe defining a sealed interior space enclosing a working fluid; the heat pipe defining first and second end sections in fluid communication with the working fluid, and characterized by a first average cross-sectional area; andthe working fluid having a boiling temperature range less than the minimum operating temperature and greater than the average temperature,the heat pipe being formed of thermally conductive material, and configured to be fixedly connectable to the body so as to secure the first end section within the heated zone and to position the second end section within the ambient environment.
