1. An ion-conducting membrane for fuel cell applications, the ion-conducting membrane comprising:
an ion-conducting sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene-based fluoropolymer-copolymer; and a tin-containing compound at least partially dispersed within the ion-conducting sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene-based fluoropolymer-copolymer, the tin-containing compound being present in an amount from about 0.1 to about 5 weight percent of the total weight of the ion-conducting membrane, the tin-containing compound being described by formula I:
MxSnO4 IM is hydrogen, sodium, potassium, calcium, or magnesium; andx is a number such that Mx balances the charge on SnO4. |
