An easy to carry lightweight carton (10) for shipping and storing cut paper and for providing rapid and easy access to the paper when the carton (10) is opened. The carton has a base portion (11) and a lid (12) pivotally attached to the base portion. The lid has a tear strip (26) being defined by two parallel successive rows of inclined cut lines (56). Each of the inclined cut lines (56) having a length (K) and further being spaced apart by a distance (D) wherein the ratio of D/K is from 1 :2 to 4: 1. A front wall (18) of the carton may be pivoted down when the lid (12) is pivoted up to facilitate access to the contents of the carton (10) for ease of unloading of paper from the carton (10). A carry handle (13) is built into the lid (12) to facilitate carrying of the carton (10). The carton (10) may be re-closed after it is opened.
