<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detection device and a foreign matter detection method which are capable of appropriately detecting whether foreign matters exist or not regardless of variation in environmental temperature and the like.SOLUTION: In a foreign matter detection device 5, a foreign mater detection unit 80 includes a magnetic sensor 10 for detecting magnetic characteristics of a bank note 2 transported into a detection area 40 and performs foreign matter detection processing of determining whether the bank note 2 contains metallic foreign matters or not on the basis of the output from the magnetic sensor 10. In addition, a detection condition correction unit 86 which performs correction processing of correcting a detection condition for the foreign matter detection processing in accordance with variation in environmental temperature is provided, and a timing control unit 88 causes the foreign matter detection unit 80 to perform the foreign matter detection processing when the bank note 2 is transported, and causes the detection condition correction unit 86 to perform the correction processing when the foreign matter detection processing pauses. If the detection condition correction unit 86 is performing the correction processing even when the bank note 2 is transported, the timing control unit 88 causes the foreign mater detection unit 80 to wait for the execution of the foreign matter detection processing till the end of the correction processing.</p> |
