PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method and a detection device capable of precisely detecting a condition of a seal member when an injector is inserted into an injector mounting hole of a cylinder head.SOLUTION: Insertion loads acting on a seal ring 9 in insertion of injectors for an internal combustion engine 2A-2D into injector mounting holes 7 of a cylinder head 8 are measured. When insertion distances of the injectors for an internal combustion engine 2A-2D are within a predetermined range, the absolute value of a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the insertion loads is compared with an allowable value to detect abnormality, such as seal cutting.
