Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for outputting information on a dark current generated by an external electronic device for a vehicle. A power source outlet of a vehicle normally connected to an accessories (ACC) power source is connected to the ACC power source during the vehicle is being driven and connected to a regular power source when the vehicle enters into a sleep mode in order to enable the regular power source to be supplied, thereby guiding a user to use external electronic devices for a vehicle, such as a black box for a vehicle and a navigation system which used to cause discharge of the vehicle by being illegally connected to the regular power source, by connecting the external devices to the power source outlet. Particularly, if the vehicle enters into the sleep mode, the regular power source is connected to the power source outlet and a voltage level of a battery of the vehicle is measured using a battery sensor and an outlet sensor at the same time to change the power source of the power source outlet back into the ACC power source if the battery of the vehicle falls to a level equal to or less than a predefined voltage (reference voltage) level having a danger of discharge in order to prevent the battery discharge of the vehicle. Also, when a user gets into a vehicle, information on a dark current generated by the external electronic devices, such as current voltage of the battery, a dark current outputted to the external electronic devices for the vehicle by the power source outlet, and the time remaining until the battery discharge predicted in the current situation, is outputted to the user, thereby enabling the user to conveniently and intuitively understand the current status of the power source of the vehicle and pay closer attention to the battery discharge of the vehicle. |
