PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing desulfurized vacuum gas oil base material which hardly generates sludge and deposit and secures oxidation stability by applying proper hydrodesulfurization treatment to vacuum gas oil raw material; and to provide a gas oil composition blended with the gas oil base material.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing desulfurized vacuum gas oil base material comprising: treating a vacuum gas oil having a whole aromatic content of 35 to 50 volume% in a hydrodesulfurization apparatus, the vacuum gas oil being obtained by treating in a vacuum distillation apparatus an atmospheric distillation residue obtained by treating crude oil in an atmospheric distillation apparatus; and obtaining desulfurized gas oil base material which has a 10% distillation temperature of 200 to 230°C, a 90% distillation temperature of 280 to 320°C, a whole aromatic content of 28 to 36 volume%, a content of monocyclic and bicyclic naphthenobenzenes (ionic strength, %) of 14.0 to 17.5%, a content of naphthalenes (ionic strength, %) of 1.0 to 2.0%, a sulfur content of 50 mass ppm or less, and an induction period of 100 minutes or more. |
