<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a target compound, lactic acid, can be obtained from glycerin in a yield of 30% or more which is as high as before with a small content of impurities (preferably, selectivity for impurities is 40% or less), with complex purification steps eliminated by this and, further, under reaction conditions of lower temperature/lower pressure than before.SOLUTION: The method for producing lactic acid uses glycerin as a raw material and comprises subjecting glycerin to a hydrothermal reaction in the presence of a catalyst containing any one or more active elements which belong to iron group elements, noble metal elements, platinum group elements, and base metal elements, and under an alkaline condition.</p> |
