PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration in vehicle recognition performance by erroneously detecting a vehicle passing on another lane adjacent to a lane to be imaged as a vehicle passing on the lane to be imaged.SOLUTION: An inventive recognition device includes a specification part, a judgement part, and an exclusion part. The specification part specifies a symbol of a number plate of a vehicle from an image imaged by a second imaging apparatus which is intended to image a second lane. The second imaging apparatus is installed at a position which is more distant to the second lane adjacent to a first lane than to the first lane which is an imaging target of a first imaging apparatus. The judgement part determines whether a large vehicle is detected from an image imaged by the first imaging apparatus during a predetermined period based on a time at which an image of the vehicle is imaged when failing in specification of the symbol. The exclusion part excludes the image of the vehicle imaged by the second imaging apparatus from a case example indicating failing in specification of the symbol of the number plate when the large vehicle is detected.
