PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device in which moisture-proof property is improved by reducing generation of impurities and outgas from a sealing material, the sealing material is made thin, and thereby, high definition display of images and reduction in size of the device can be achieved.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device 100 includes a liquid crystal 50 disposed between an element substrate 10 and a counter substrate 20, and further includes: a sealing material 40 disposed in a gap between the element substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20 for sealing the liquid crystal 50; and a gas barrier layer 90 disposed outside the sealing material 40 to cover the outside of the gap, with a part of the gas barrier layer located in the gap. A vacant region 60 is formed in at least a part between the sealing material 40 and the gas barrier layer 90. |
