PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress adhesion, to an intermediate transfer body, of a recording material having passed through a transfer area of the intermediate transfer body and the recording material regardless of the types of the recording material, in an image forming apparatus of an intermediate transfer system.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus of an intermediate transfer system includes: a support mechanism 6 that movably supports a secondary transfer member 5 along a conveyance track of an intermediate transfer body 2 in a secondary transfer area; a surface forming member 7 that is arranged in contact with a rear face of the intermediate transfer body 2 on the upstream side of the secondary transfer member 5, and provided movably back and forth to form a conveyance track surface of the intermediate transfer body 2; a determination unit 11 that determines whether or not a recording material S is a type having a predetermined basis weight and thickness or less; and a control device 12 that controls, when the recording material S is the type having a predetermined basis weight and thickness or less, the support mechanism to move the secondary transfer member 5 to the upstream side of the intermediate transfer body 2 compared to the case other than that determined by the determination unit 11, and controls a position of the surface forming member 7 so as to move the surface forming member 7 backward in a direction separated from the intermediate transfer body 2. |
