PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for a spring excellent in corrosion resistance in a corrosive environment and a steel material for a spring.SOLUTION: There are a steel for a spring excellent in corrosion resistance having a chemical component containing, by mass%, C:0.4 to 1.2%, Si:0.02 to 3.0%, Mn:0.35 to 2.5%, Al:0.001 to 0.5%, N:0.003 to 0.015%, Zr:0.1 to 0.5%, limiting S:0.030% or less, P:0.03% or less, O:0.0050% or less, satisfying Zr/91.2-(S/32.1+N/14.0)≥0.001 and having the balance Fe with inevitable impurities; and a steel material for a spring having points where Mn and S are simultaneously detected as a spot having 1 μmon a surface by EPMA analysis of 25 or less per 0.25 mm. |
