PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a vinylbenzylated polyphenylene ether compound.SOLUTION: Polyphenylene ether having a repeating unit of the following general formula (1) or (2) and vinylbenzyl halide are caused to react with each other in the presence of alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution, and the resultant reaction liquid is treated with the alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution in the presence of phase transfer catalyst.
