Provided are a method of preparing a negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery including the steps of: preparing a solution containing a solvent and a spherical natural graphite particle; sonicating the solution; and drying the sonicated solution to produce a modified graphite particle, a negative active material and a rechargeable lithium battery prepared by the same.
