Provided is a lifting apparatus that obviates complicated manual tasks performed to engage or disengage a water treatment device and a lifting implement. A lifting apparatus (4) that can be engaged with or disengaged from a water treatment device (3) to be lifted, wherein the lifting apparatus (4) is provided with a frame (42) and an engaging section (44) capable of engaging with an engageable section (32) provided to the water treatment device (3), the upper part of the engaging section (44) being pivotably supported in place on the frame (42) and disposed vertically thereon. When the lifting apparatus (4) is brought down toward the water treatment device (3), the engaging section (44) is caused to pivot by making contact with the engageable section (32). When the lifting apparatus (4) is brought yet closer, the engaging section (44) pivots back to being vertically disposed, whereby the engaging section (44) and the engageable section (32) can be set to a first operation state in which engagement therebetween is possible.
