A heat pipe is configured relative to a distillation column to adjust one or more conditions in the distillation column. In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a distillation column including at least three trays, a pressure mechanism operably connected to the distillation column to control respective pressures of the at least three trays, and at least one heat pipe operably connected to each of the at least three trays to thermally connect each of the at least three trays.
