<p>Light diffusers include both bulk and surface diffuser elements. Diffusing elements form a structured coating on a substantially clear substrate. A bulk diffuser comprises a structured surface. In either form, the volumetric diffuser concentration and refractive index difference between major and minor components in the non-homogenous material can be varied to control the light transmission, source obscuration, and bulk diffusion capabilities. Methods for making and methods of using the light diffusers are also disclosed. The light diffusers can be used in lighting applications, including solid-state lighting, machine vision applications, automotive applications, transportation signaling applications, and displays, such as rear projection displays, back-lighted imaging media, liquid crystal display components and devices, and in processes for diffusing light.</p> |
