533,620. Testing balance of sports implements. CHAPMAN, A. W. Oct. 31, 1939, No. 29079. [Class 97 (iii)] A device for comparing the balance of a pair of golf clubs, rackets, hockey sticks, sculls, foils, polo sticks or like articles comprises means for holding the clubs &c. on the device at or near the position in which they would be held in play, and means for affording a visual indication of the comparative balance. As shown, two L-shaped balance arms 11 are secured by nuts and spacing sleeves 13 to a knife-edged fulcrum pin 8, and the golf clubs 19 (one only shown) are positioned between the spacing sleeves 13 and the ends 12 of the balance arms with the club heads pointing in opposite directions. The comparative balance of the two clubs may then be observed by the position of an indicator 17 forming part of a linkage 15, 16 secured to the balance arms. The positions of the balance arms may be adjusted so that the centre of gravity of the articles under comparison may be brought nearer to the fulcrum, and the sensitivity of the device thus increased. A graduated weigh beam 20 with adjustable poise 23 may be placed in one balance arm 11 in order to enable the weight of a club in the other balance arm to be ascertained.
|
