摘要 <p>Provided is an organic electroluminescent element that is low-cost and that can have an increased light extraction efficiency across a wide band. The organic EL element (100) is provided with: an optical layer (2) that is formed on a transparent substrate (1), has a uniform refractive index, and has concavities/convexities at the surface at the reverse side from the transparent substrate (1); a transparent electrode (3) formed on the optical layer (2); a light-emitting layer (4) formed on the transparent electrode (3); and a reflecting electrode (5) formed on the light-emitting layer (4). The optical layer (2) is configured from a binder layer (2A) and particles (2B). The size of the particles (2B) is no greater than 1000 nm, and the gap between convex portions of the surface of the optical layer (2) varies in the range of 100-1000 nm. If the frequency of occurrence of the most commonly present gap in the optical layer (2) is "1", the frequency of occurrence of a 1000 nm gap is at least 0.5.</p>
