Provided are a production method that facilitates distribution of inert gas, allows uniform heating to be achieved, and does not damage a furnace, and particles to be used in such a production method when artificial graphite is to be produced using a vertical graphitization furnace. Specifically, provided is a method for producing graphite including at least a step for introducing particles of a material to be graphitized having an average particle size of 3-30 mm into a vertical graphitization furnace from the top, graphitizing by heating at 2200-3200°C while inert gas flows from the bottom to the top, and removing the obtained graphite from the bottom. Also provided are particles for graphite production by a vertical graphitization furnace that are obtained by granulating to an average particle size of 3-30 mm a starting material charcoal blend containing at least 100 parts by mass of graphitization starting material charcoal powder having an average particle size of 10-20 μm, 3-20 parts by mass of a binder that decomposes below 1000°C, and 5-30 parts by mass of a liquid that dissolves the binder. |
