PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new rosin-modified phenol resin capable of simultaneously improving abrasion resistance and gloss of an ink coating film when used as a binder resin of offset printing ink.SOLUTION: There is provided a rosin-modified phenol resin obtained by reacting a rosin (1), a polyol (2), a condensate (3) of a predetermined aryl phenol (p1) and formaldehyde (F) and a condensate (4) of an alkyl phenol (p2) and formaldehyde (F), wherein the weight ratio [(3)/(4)] between (3) component and (4) component is 2/8 to 6/4.
