PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route guidance system which promotes use of route guidance functions.SOLUTION: A route guidance system 1 comprises: a map DB 23a for storing map information; a route retrieval section 22a for retrieving a route from a user current position to a destination on the basis of the map information stored in the map DB 23a; and a guidance section 22e for executing control to provide guidance to a user on the retrieved route. The system comprises: a virtual destination setting section 22b for setting a virtual destination for the user on a map indicated by the map information stored in the map DB 23a; a virtual route retrieval section 22c for retrieving a virtual route from the user current position to the virtual destination; and a virtual item setting section 22d for setting an item spot on the virtual route and setting a virtual item on the set item spot. The guidance section 22e executes control to provide guidance to the user on the item spot and the virtual item set by the virtual item setting section 22d.
