[Problem] Provided are a polarizing plate, image display device, and visibility improvement method in which light-place contrast can be improved. [Solution] According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a polarizing plate (10) provided with a polarizer (11) and a light-transmitting film (12) having in-plane birefringence and being provided on one surface of the polarizer (11), the polarizing plate (10) being characterized in that when nx represents the refractive index in the slow axis direction, which is the direction in which the in-plane refractive index of the light-transmitting film (12) is the largest, ny represents the refractive index in the fast axis direction, which is the direction orthogonal to the slow axis direction in the plane, and N represents the average refractive index of the light-transmitting film (12), the light-transmitting film (12) satisfies the following relationship (1): nx > N > ny...(1), and the polarizer (11) and the light-transmitting film (12) are disposed so that both the fast axis direction of the light-transmitting film and the absorption axis direction of the polarizer (11) are oriented horizontally. |
